The Airport Economist’s useful websites in trade and economics.

Australian

Australian Bureau of Statistics – www.abs.gov.au

Great for all sorts of data on the Australian economy and society.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade – www.dfat.gov.au

DFAT has useful travel information for Australians venturing overseas with embassy addresses, information regarding passport and visas, travel alerts etc..

I also recommend looking at their statistics website  http://www.dfat.gov.au/publications/statistics_international.html which is very useful when looking up trade statistics.

Australian Business Economists – www.abe.org.au

The ABE is the leading organisation of market economists in Sydney. They put on great events with guest speakers such as Fed Governors, RBA Governors, Treasurers and other leading lights.

Reserve Bank of Australia – www.rba.gov.au

This is great for data, speeches and research papers. The RBA’s ‘Chart pack’ of Economic Graphs produced by Bank’s economists is first class and well worth looking at.

University of South Australia (internet resources for economists) – http://www.library.unisa.edu.au/resources/subject/economic.asp this site is great for economics teachers and students

For practical export information, exporters and potential exporters should check out Austrade and EFIC as well as DFAT’s site (mentioned above). See: Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) – www.austrade.gov.au

Of course, The Airport Economist  appears as a regular commentator on Australian’s national broadcaster, the ABC.

Check out www.abc.net.au and in particular, the ABC’s current affairs blog “The Drum” – Alan Kohler and Stephen Long cover the economic and finance issues.
But As a frequent traveller, the best resource of all for The Airport Economist is the Australia Network: australianetwork.com
